Why Kansas lost

Obviously sloppy defense and pathetic rebounding stands out.
But the biggest problem was their offense.
Now put aside their outside shooting because it's not good to begin with.
That everyone knows.
The biggest problem was their play calling.
Too much motion offense. Too much free lancing. This may sound absurd but too much movement.
What they needed to do was to be clear of what they wanted to accomplish.
Did they want to emphasize the inside game?
Did they want to penetrate? Which obvisouly wasn't working. I'll mention why later.
But in either case what kind of shot they desired was unclear through out the game.
What they wanted to accomplish on offense was vague which affected their whole game.
Without a clear objective, they simply couldn't improve their game through the course of the game because there was no base to build on.
I say they should've called more set plays if they had any.
They should've played the game one possesion at a time in stead of hoping for spurts.
Because of not being able to concentrate one possession at a time, too much time went by not knowing how to handle Northern Iowa.
Too much time passed thinking that those 3's will sometime drop.
Too much time passed figuring that they would somehow be able to blow by these defenders for a dunk.

Another option was to go small and try to speed up the tempo. This would mean to get Aldrich out of the game. He was left open outside which enabled Northern Iowa's center to play zone in the middle of the land all game long.
This was a key factor to why Kansas couldn't penetrate. They were basically playing 1 on 2 when they penetrate.

I hate to say this, but for this one, the blame lies heavily on Bill Self.

Kudos to the Northern Iowa team!!
