NY Knicks

I'm a die hard Knick fan and living in Japan doesn't really serve me well since I can't catch their games.
The recent game against Denver was probably the first and last I'll get to see this year.

However, one look did tell the story.

What I liked.

Danilo Gallinari
He's no Kobe nor Wade, but I think his mental toughness can take him to a higher level.
His shot and understanding of the game makes him a unique player.
Once he learns to post up a little, his game will be more consistent.

Toney Douglas
Yes he got schooled by Chauncey. But what he seemed to learn over the course of the game from Chauncey,
a. the pull up jumer
b. decision making. when to drive, when to pull up, change of pace

hopefully sticks with him for a long time. He's by far the best option the Knicks have at the point by far.

Perhaps the thing I liked most maybe the 1-2-2 matchup zone defense.
I wonder why they don't use it more???

Because here's what I don't like.
Their man to man defense is terrible. They just happen to match up well with Denver.
Denver has no big man who can score, thus they have more of a perimiter dependant game, similar to the Knicks.
There not going to stop anybody so why not at least stop opponents outside game or be able to double the bigs easier by playing area defense.

Another factor is that they need a long athletic defensive minded foward to compliment Lee. Someone like perhpas Tyson Chandler, or Thomas of the Bobcats.

I'm also not sold on D'Antoni's offense yet. It's too outside shot oriented. Now if McGrady is the old McGrady, things really get interesting.
As of now, all of their offense basically comes from jumpers. They need a good post who can pass to really make a big difference.

That being said, I kind oflike the way things are going for this organization. At least it's prettly clear on what type of brand of basketball they are aiming for. The winter market is key.
